About the FDP:

  • The prime goal of the FDP is to promote research and development activities in the manufacturing of composite materials and their Mechanical and Tribological Aspects. The FDP will provide a common platform for professionals, academicians and researchers to share their knowledge and ideas for achieving focused development and advancements in the emerging field of this area.
  • It will help the participants to redefine their horizons in recent innovation in the broad application of Composite Materials and their Manufacturing and Tribological aspects leading to networking of participant for effective collaboration in R&D and recognizing the areas which require future research.

Day 1 (21/01/2019) 

  • Session I 
  • Report:Prof. Arshad Noor Siddiquee delivered the lecture in first session. He delivered their lecture on surface composites via friction stir processing. He discuss about the basics of composite materials. He discusses the benefits and limitation of composite materials. His main focus was on the Aluminum matrix based composite materials. He has discussed the journey of Aluminum in detail. The following topics are elaborated in details during the session.
    • Friction stir welding: foundation of a noval sustainable manufacturing philosophy.

  • Session II 

  • Report:
  • The post-lunch session was taken by Prof. S.M. Muzakkir from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi on “objective and scope of TEQIP – III in technical education”. The role of TEQIP – II is to delivery of quality education, research in an efficient manner, empowerment of institutions for self-governance and achieving excellence in engineering education. He told to the participants about the faculty response on change in the learning and scholastic orientation of students and on improvement in the learning aptitude of the students. He also discussed the factors that are important for improving the quality of education. Academic ranking of technical institutions of Uttar Pradesh is also discussed.

Day 2 (22/01/2019)

  • Report:
  •  Dr. Naresh Varma Datla from IIT Delhi has discussed about fiber reinforced composites in the first session. He makes the participant clear about matrix, fillers and reinforcement. He discussed about the fabrication and failure of the laminated composites. The following topics were discussed in detail during the session.

  • Session II 
  • Report:The topic of “Fabrication and characterization of composite coating on cutting tools” was discussed during the second session by the speaker Prof. Sudarsan Ghosh from IIT Delhi. Composite classification and High performance composites was discussed in detail. He discussed the surface coating, composite coating and significance of coated cutting tool. He also discussed the commonly used techniques for depositing composite coatings like Chemical vapour déposition process (CVD) and Physical vapour deposition process (PVD). Coating classification was also discussed.

Day 3 (23/01/2019) 

  • Session I 
  • Report  Dr. Jayant jain from IIT Delhi has deliver a lecture on mechanical properties and fracture behavior of composite materials in this session. The main focus was on the metal matrix based composite materials (MMCs). Tensile and bending behaviors of composite materials are discussed. The following topics are elaborated in details during the session.

    • Strengthening mechanisms in MMCs
    • Damage in Particulate Reinforced MMC
  • Session II
  • Report  Dr. Qasim Murtaza from Delhi Technological University delivered his talk on “Thermal spray techniques of metal and non-metal coating & its applications”. He tells to the participants that how tribology is in virtually every area of engineering and industry. He discussed the various coating materials in detail. He also discussed the classification of spraying methods. HVOF thermal spray process was elaborated in detail. Wear behaviour of chrome coating on cast iron piston ring by pin on the disc are also discussed. Wear Resistance Peripheral Coating for Piston Rings are elaborated in deep. Load variations on wear rate of hard chrome plating coating with tungsten carbide are discussed.

Day 4 (24/01/2019)

  • Report: The topic of LASERS for machining of composite materials was discussed by the speaker, Dr. Sanjay Mishra from MMMUT Gorakhpur. He clarifies the difference between conventional and unconventional machining processes. The following topics are elaborated in details during the session.

  • Report: Prof. Zahid Akhtar Khan from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi delivered lecture on “Taguchi based Fuzzy TOPSIS method for multi-response optimization of a machining process parameters” in the second session. He focused on the techniques involve in the optimization of output responses for different input machining parameters. The following points are elaborated in details during this session.

Day 5 (25/01/2019)

  • Report: The topic of “Fabrication and Machining of Hybride Metal Matrix Composite” was discussed by the speaker, Dr. Deepak Kumar from IIT Delhi. He discussed about the fabrication technique and wire electrical discharge machining.
  • Session II
  • Report:Dr. Satpal Sharma from Gautam Buddha University, Greater Noida, delivered lecture on Metal Matrix Composites, Synthesis and Characterizations. He discussed the basic of composite materials and types of wear behavior. He makes the participant clear about the interface of matrix and reinforcing materials. He elaborates the types of fibers, whiskers and their properties. He also discussed about the interfacial bonding and wettability. Participant knows the theoretical calculation of composite properties in this lecture. Processing of metal matrix composite is also discussed. Characterizations of composites are elaborated in detail.
